This Privacy Policy explains how StudyBell: AI Study Timer ("StudyBell", "the App", "we", "us") handles information when you use the app. StudyBell is designed to keep your study data on your own device wherever possible.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information stored only on your device
- Timer and Pomodoro session settings and history
- Alarms you create (time, repeat days, linked subject)
- Subjects, weekly goals, and study tasks you add
- Study analytics derived from your own usage (focus hours, session counts, ratings)
- Your AI provider API key (if you choose to add one)
This data is stored locally on your device using Android's app storage. We do not operate a server that stores this information, and we cannot see it.
1.2 Information sent to AI providers (BYOK)
StudyBell's AI Assistant is a "Bring Your Own Key" (BYOK) feature. If you enter an API key for Groq, OpenAI, Gemini, OpenRouter, or Anthropic and use the AI Assistant, the text you submit (e.g., a topic name, chat message, or study question) is sent directly from your device to that provider using your key. That exchange is governed by the chosen provider's own privacy policy and terms, not by us. We do not receive, log, or store your API key or the content of these requests.

2. App Permissions

3. How We Use Information
- To run the core features of the app (timer, alarms, subjects, analytics) entirely on-device
- To send your AI Assistant requests to the provider you selected, using your own key
- To display advertising through Google AdMob
- To keep the app secure and prevent abuse via Firebase App Check
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your study content to train any model.
4. Data Sharing
We do not share your locally stored study data with third parties. The only sharing that occurs is:
- With the AI provider you configure, limited to the request you choose to send
- With Google (AdMob/Firebase), limited to standard advertising and app-security data described above
5. Data Retention & Deletion
Your timers, alarms, subjects, tasks, and analytics remain on your device until you delete them in-app or uninstall StudyBell. Uninstalling the app removes this locally stored data. Your API key can be removed at any time from the AI Assistant screen.
6. Children's Privacy
StudyBell is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.
7. Your Choices
- You can use StudyBell's timer, alarms, subjects, and analytics features without ever entering an AI API key
- You can opt out of personalized advertising through your device's Google Ads settings
- You can delete any data stored in-app at any time, or uninstall the app to remove all local data
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
